Sammy Success Stories

"Blue's story - short version

Blue began his life in a Missouri puppy mill and would have faced a very bleak future filled with neglect and abuse. But fate stepped in and the puppy mill was closed down. When St. Louis Samoyed Rescue heard about Blue's need for a new home, volunteers drove nearly 200 miles to rescue him. They brought him to St. Louis, got him medical help and took him to a very special kennel where he could rest, play and be pampered.

Because St. Louis Samoyed Rescue was overwhelmed with dogs at that time, they asked for help. There were several National Samoyed Rescue groups that asked for Blue and it was decided that he would go to San Francisco Samoyed Rescue group. The NSR sent grant money to St. Louis to pay for his trip and expenses.

Blue was chauffeured first to Columbia, MO, then on to Lawrence, KS, and finally to Denver, CO. He stayed there for a few days of rest and relaxation with Denver Samoyed Rescue. Then he took the final leg of his journey on a flight to San Francisco where he was met and whisked to his foster home. Once there, he settled in and learned how great being in a loving home could be. Blue is now in his forever home with a wonderful family and a Sammy for a best pal."

"In the summer of 2002, Josie was a pretty sad sight when she arrived in St. Louis. She was thin, dirty and terrified of people and small confining spaces. She fostered with Marilyn Petzold and her Sammy, Jenny. It was with them that she started to realize that people weren’t so bad after all. Don and I decided to adopt her, not actually realizing what a challenge she would be. Dogs born in puppy mills have a somewhat different view of life. To them, life is scary and they need patience and gentleness. She’s become a very loving and still somewhat cautious beautiful Sammy girl She’s still maturing and will for some time. After all, she spent her puppy hood, not romping and playing with her littermates, but locked in a cage. She has a lot of catching up to do."

Ziggy was a rescue in the kennel that I worked in. The day he came in I immediatly fell in love with him and from that day on I spent all of my spare time in his kennel playing with him and spoiling him.

I am going through a divorce and I am raising 3 children on my own, my kids and I finally got a place of our own and I decided to adopt him and make him a part of our family and our new life. Ziggy came to us on November, 20 2007 and it was one of the best decisions I have made. Ziggy has fit in even better than I ever imagined, he absolutley loves my kids and he is very protective of me, he checks on the kids when he thinks something is wrong, when I come home by myself and bring him in the house from his kennel the first thing he does is run into the kids room to look for them. Ziggy is a very affectionate dog he loves giving kisses and my kids love giving them back. When he is in the house with us he either lays on my bed or lays on the couch right beside me if he is not making us pet him and rub his belly (haha). Ziggy is the best dog a person could want, and he deserves it after the rocky life he has lived in his short life.

Thank You to everyone that has helped bring Ziggy home.

Dear Carolyn,

My wife, Sheila and I just received, the fall issue of Samoyed Update. It prompted me to write you a short letter, thanking you for something you did for us July 24, 2001. We found the St. Louis Samoyed Rescue on the internet. We contacted you to help up find a Sammie. You told us you had three dogs available, so we drove to St. Louis to a foster home. The first and only dog we saw was a beautiful, gentle Sammie that had been given the name of Balto. Needless to say, we adopted him and brought him back to Burlington, Iowa. We changed his name to “Jake”. He is the love of our family, and to all that has met him. He is like one of our children.

He has given us some much love over the 5 years, we have had him. He is simply awesome. He is the gentlest dog around children and people. He lso the most protective animal, I have ever seen. His best friend nother dog we acquired 3 years ago. He Scottish terrier name “Gus”. They do everything together, and are best buds. Occasionally on walks, loose vicious dogs have attacked Gus. I cannot tell you how protective Jake is over Gus. He will let no other dog harm Gus or Sheila.

Jack is the most wonderful dog, Sheila or I have ever had. He is probably approaching 8-9 years of age now. We cannot visualize the thought of not having him around. We often talk about getting another Sammi when he is no longer with us.

Any way, we wanted you to know that your assistance in giving us the opportunity to adopt Jake has given us years of happiness with him. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We have given Jake a wonderful home, with lots of love, which he gives us unconditional love in return.

Thank you so much,

Dale & Sheila (Colton) Eibes

My husband Eric lost a Sammy a few years back. He was sick over the loss. What was once his very best friend, became only his desktop picture. While I was online searching for a puppy, so that I could surprise him for Father's day, I ran across the Samoyed club website. I read the stories about the rescued Samoyed's. Something about one named, Cash, stood out to me. After contacting Sue, I called Eric while he was still at work, and told him to look on the site. He was so excited he dropped everything to go look. He called me back, and said, "I like Cash"! When we went to see Cash, I was floored. I had never seen a Samoyed before. He was beautiful. I thought he looked very royal, regal. We adopted him, and renamed him Samson. We think he is the best dog, ever. He loves to play with our kids, and he is soooo good. We are so glad that he was saved by St. Louis Samoyed Rescue. Otherwise, he may have been destroyed. Thanks!!!!
